Ontario Tower Buzzers Shirt
The air in London always feels different, a kind of electric hum, especially when you’re just starting out, right? I remember the first time I saw the Ontario Tower; it felt like a gigantic, glass-skinned monolith rising from the East End. Back then, I was fresh off the train from Hertfordshire, lugging my oversized backpack and clutching a crumpled map. Finding a flat that didn’t cost the earth was a proper ordeal, but eventually, I ended up in a tiny, poky place overlooking Canary Wharf. My window faced away from the tower, sadly, but the vague knowledge that such a cool building was somewhere nearby filled me with an odd kind of energy.

My first proper job was in a small coffee shop in the docklands. The hours were long, the tips were pathetic, and my barista skills were… developing, let’s say. One day, I was running late and practically sprinting down the road, and I bumped, quite hard actually, into a guy wearing a bright red shirt. It had some design on it, which I didn’t see properly because I was flustered, and it had a large logo. I mumbled a rushed apology and kept going. Later that day, I saw it again: he was on the tube and I noticed the design on the shirt.

It turned out that shirt, the design was about the Ontario Tower Buzzers Shirt. Apparently, it was a thing. I thought the design was some abstract art, a cool, geometric thing and assumed it was some art exhibition. Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention, figuring it was just another trendy thing in a city teeming with them. I was more concerned with remembering to order more oat milk. That afternoon, I was at the till and the guy in the red shirt came in and I realised! He had the t-shirt on. The next few months were a blur of caffeine-fueled mornings, grumpy customers, and the slow, grinding realisation that London living was not the glamorous adventure I had imagined. But the guy in the red shirt, he’d become a fixture. He’d pop in for a flat white most days and always have a friendly word. We’d chat about the weather, how hectic the tube was, how expensive everything was. I found myself looking forward to his visits, not just for the small talk, but for a sense of connection in a city that often felt cold and impersonal.
