Holly Jolly Patriots Christmas shirt
The scent of cinnamon and pine needles always hits me first, a familiar hug as December rolls in. It’s funny, the things that trigger memories, and a new “Holly Jolly Patriots Christmas” shirt I saw online the other day brought up my Uncle Joe. He was a die-hard, tailgating every Sunday, rain or shine. I can still picture him, face ruddy from the cold, a huge grin plastered across his face after a particularly amazing touchdown, probably while he was simultaneously grilling some burgers. He’d have loved this shirt, I just know it. It feels like something he would have proudly worn, especially during those holiday gatherings, holding court in the living room with the extended family.

I actually did end up ordering it. The image, a festive blend of red, white, and blue, was just too perfect. Seeing it arrive in the mail, I felt that familiar, silly thrill. It’s been years since I last spent Christmas with my Uncle Joe, and I find myself missing those Christmases more than ever. The clatter of mismatched silverware, the aroma of Mom’s roast, the easy laughter – it’s like a warm blanket. This shirt felt like a tiny piece of that, a bridge across time.

I remember one year, we almost didn’t have a Christmas tree. The whole family was struggling, finances were tight, and decorations had to be cut. Uncle Joe, bless his ass, found a way. He pulled some strings, worked extra shifts, and somehow, miraculously, there was a beautiful, freshly cut fir standing in the corner of the living room, even the lights were on it. That generosity, that ability to bring magic even when things were difficult, is what I will always treasure. Wearing the shirt now, I keep finding myself smiling at the little details, the slightly off-kilter design of the snowflakes, the way the colors pop against the dark fabric. It’s not just a piece of clothing; it’s a feeling, a connection to a time when things felt simpler, more joyful. And I’m sure my Uncle Joe will approve.

During the pandemic, but I’ve always received my items, even if I had to wait an extra week or so.
