Obey your sprite logo shirt
The faded green of the vintage concert tee I pulled from my closet this morning – a relic from a music festival back in ’07 – sparked a memory. It wasn’t just the shirt itself; it was the faded, slightly off-center graphic of a screaming guitar player, the band’s name scrawled underneath in a font that screamed “punk rock.” Seeing that reminded me about my friend Mark, who was obsessed with collecting old band t-shirts and he’d give anything for a shirt with that same vibe. I wonder how he’s doing these days, it’s been a while since we hung out.

Obey Your Sprite Logo Shirt… the phrase popped into my head, a random association. It made me think about that old Sprite commercial from the 90s, the one with the quirky, almost unsettling animation. The way the can would morph into a smiling face… It was a weird, but memorable piece of advertising. And the idea of -obeying- anything felt oddly rebellious, even if it was just a soda. I can remember the commercials playing on repeat whenever I would visit my grandmother.

I remember my own t-shirt collection back in high school. I wasn’t as dedicated as Mark, but I had a few favorites. There was a worn-out Ramones tee, the logo cracking with age, and a slightly too-big Nirvana shirt I’d snagged at a thrift store. Wearing those shirts was a statement, a silent nod to the music that was shaping us. My mom always told me that I had too many t-shirts and that I was “going to rot in them”. The concept of “obeying” a logo, especially a playful one like Sprite’s, felt ironic. It was like they were subtly poking fun at consumerism while simultaneously encouraging it. The design, the messaging… it was all so carefully constructed to create an emotional connection. I suspect that the creators of that advertisement never knew their work would stay with me for this long.

These products are typically a size small vs US sizing. I’m 6’4”/225 and usually wear an XL. I buy 2XL in these and is perfect.
Material weight and fabrication is good quality. Would buy more.
