Little leaguers faced off on the baseball diamond, after work revelers snuck in bottles of rosé, and from the Great Lawn, a soundtrack of show tunes could be heard echoing through the trees as The Public Theater held its annual gala at the park’s Delacorte Theatre. Usually reserved for the company’s tricky to get tickets to Shakespeare in The Park showings, the amphitheater and its adjacent yard had been repurposed for cocktails and alfresco dinner. “It’s just not summer unless I see a play here,” Jane Lynch told Vogue. “I just love the whole idea of The Public, and how great they are at supporting really talented artists who are young and maybe untested.
